In this practical science investigation, students will mark out a small area using sand or fine soil to create a simple animal track trap. After leaving it overnight, they’ll return to examine and identify any footprints or signs of wildlife activity. It’s an ideal way to bring habitat studies to life while introducing scientific thinking and inquiry outdoors.

Use it as a one-off science experiment or extend it into a longer investigation by changing variables such as location, weather conditions, season, or adding food to attract different animals.
