Light and Sight: Shadow Challenge Task Cards
You need to be a member to download this file.

These challenges are a fantastic addition to your light and shadow unit, engaging students in exploring shadows in a fun and practical way as they work through each challenge on the cards.

These challenges promote self-discovery and independent thinking while teaching students how shadows are formed and how the angle of light affects the shadow.

This activity is most effective on a sunny morning when the sun is lower in the sky, creating larger shadows.

The challenge cards include a main task, with some offering an additional extension (written in purple) for an extra challenge. Cards 1-10 are simpler, while cards 11-20 are more complex.

Some challenges are best tackled in small groups. For tasks where students create their own shadows, using chalk to outline the shadows they make is particularly effective.

Digital Version: Students can take photos of their shadows and upload them to Google Slides.

A printable answer sheet is also included for students to record their challenge outcomes.
