Setting Description Game - Five Senses - Descriptive Writing
Download

Encourage your students to fully engage their senses as they develop their descriptive writing skills. In this activity, students will work in pairs, with one student blindfolded while their partner safely guides them to a designated area within the school grounds or outdoor space. (For best results, ensure a variety of locations are available for students to explore.)

Once in place, the blindfolded student will describe what they hear, smell, and touch, while their partner records these observations. Before removing the blindfold, the blindfolded student will attempt to guess their location based on their sensory experience.

Afterward, both students will work together to describe and record what they see, paying close attention to their surroundings. Once complete, they can switch roles and repeat the activity.

Encourage students to use powerful, vivid language in their descriptions to capture the essence of each setting.
