In this activity, your class will collect and identify leaves, exploring the differences between deciduous and coniferous/evergreen leaves before answering questions to encourage them to think about the environmental impacts of trees losing their leaves.
This session is best conducted in autumn when the differences between the trees are most pronounced. It’s also important to ensure that there are coniferous/evergreen trees in the area where you’re doing this activity.
Once students have completed their sheets, we suggest laminating them to preserve their work. This can make a fantastic classroom display!
Equipment Needed:
- Resource sheets
- Internet access/tree identification sheets or books
