Using natural resources outside is a great way to engage students when learning to count. This resource is designed to get students taking part in a fun and physical activity while becoming efficient counters in real world situations. They will use the visual task cards to collect a handful of a natural resource, count how many they’ve collected, and record it on the sheet.

These cards can be laminated and written on with board makers so they can be used time and time again. This is a great activity for students to do either in pairs or individually.

Extension: Once the students have collected and counted their natural objects, they can use these objects (and more if needed), to create the number on the floor.
