Students carefully pull apart a real flower, identify each part, and stick it into the correct labelled box — turning an abstract diagram into something they've held in their own hands.

This Flower Dissection activity is designed for ages 7–12 and covers the six key reproductive and structural parts of a flowering plant: stigma, style, anther, filament, petal, and ovary. The pack works as a complete lesson — a labelled dissection sheet for sticking flower parts into, a matching definition sheet that students cut and tape to create a self-made reference flap, and a full teacher's guide.

In the UK, the activity maps to Year 3 and Year 5 science objectives on the parts of flowering plants and plant reproduction. In the US, it supports NGSS standards at Grades 3, 4, and middle school covering plant structures, life cycles, and reproduction.

The pack includes a teacher's guide with learning objectives, prep notes, starter and plenary ideas; the dissection activity sheet; and the definitions flap sheet. Prep takes 10 minutes. The lesson runs for 40 minutes. Works for individual students or pairs. Just add a large flower — daffodils, tulips, and lilies all work beautifully.
